Science
Led by Miss Laflin
Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They should be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave and analyse causes. Key scientific terminology will be introduced and knowledge will be built upon throughout the school.
Kingsdown and Ringwould Primary School is committed to ensuring that all students make progress. We support children as required in their learning, by communication, supporting, praising, challenging and building resilience. We aim to develop learners who have a thirst for knowledge and the creativity to become the scientists of tomorrow.
In 2025-2026, we have been working hard to ensure we deliver a wide range of extra-curricular activities to inspire our budding, young scientists. We run an animal art competition every two weeks. We have Year 6 science ambassadors who are constantly thinking of new ideas to use in their child-led club. We have other children from a variety of classes leading animal art and facts clubs at playtimes. In March 2026, we are having a STEM week where all the children in the school will have a science visitor (from a heath care scientist to forensic scientist visit from our local community) who will inspire the children about the wonderful world of science!
